Strange Jazz Enterprises is a corporate sponsor of the Southern California Food Bank, providing financial contributions to support the Food Bank's mission and programs.
Food insecurity in Los Angeles County carries a multifaceted and serious impact on individuals, families, and the broader community. The effects extend beyond simply lacking enough food.
Mental Health Issues are a facet. Food insecurity and the stress associated with it, are linked to higher rates of depression, anxiety, and stress in both children and adults, increasing behavioral and emotional problems.
Food insecurity deepens existing racial and economic inequities, with Black and Hispanic communities experiencing disproportionately higher rates. It creates a sense of embarrassment and reluctance to seek help, hindering efforts to address the problem effectively.
The rollback of pandemic-era benefits, coupled with rising inflation and cuts to assistance programs, has left many Angelenos struggling and further fueled the food insecurity crisis
According to a USC Dornsife study in October 2024, one in four households in Los Angeles County (around 832,000 households) experienced food insecurity. Moreover, the study revealed that 29% of households faced nutrition insecurity, meaning they lacked consistent access to nutrient-dense foods. These rates remain well above the national average of 14%.

With the two Social Impact Partners I have chosen, we are able to nourish Southern California communities, physically and creatively, by combating food insecurity through the distribution of food and empowering individuals through the transformative power of arts education.
